1980s TOPS POLL AS FAVOURITE DECADE

The 1980s has been voted the nation’s favourite movie decade with films such as ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Back to the Future’ pushing the 90s and cult films like  Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Thelma and Louise’ into second place and the ‘Frozen’-obsessed 2010s into third place in a ‘Movie Nights’ poll commissioned to celebrate Domino’s 30th anniversary in the UK.

As pizza and movies are a match made in sofa-and-PJs-heaven, celebrity food artist Nathan Wyburn has created five iconic ‘blockbuster pizzas’ from across the decades to bring to life 30 Years of Domino’s Movie Nights - using nothing but classic pizza ingredients.

The nation’s top 5 film characters that made it into the pizza oven:

  1. Marty McFly (Back to Future, 1985)

  2. Mia Wallace (Pulp Fiction, 1994)

  3. Elsa (Frozen, 2013)

  4. Edward Cullen (Twilight, 2008)

  5. Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey (50 Shades of Grey, 2015)

Whilst Marty McFly and Doc Brown of ‘Back to the Future’ fame secured the top spot for our favourite film duo, tough talking Robert De Niro was voted the most iconic actor of the last 30 years followed by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Al Pacino with Sigourney Weaver taking fifth place. It seems our dark side won out when asked which movie we would most like a lead role in with both Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight beating the feel good storyline of Frozen.

The 1980s also took the crown for the decade of our best movie moments of the past 30 years with the Dirty Dancing ‘lift’ scene taking the top spot:

Top 10 movie moments – (1985 – 2015):

  1. Dirty Dancing: the lift (1987)

  2. Titanic: Jack and Rose floating in the water as the Titanic sinks behind them (1997)

  3. Star Wars Episode V: 'I am your father' scene (1980)

  4. Pulp Fiction: John Travolta and Uma Thurma dancing scene (1994)

  5. Lord of The Rings, The Return of the King: destruction of the ring at Mount Doom (2003)

  6. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Harry receiving his letter from Hogwarts (2001)

  7. When Harry Met Sally: orgasm scene (1989)

  8. Thelma and Louise: car driving off the edge of the cliff (1991)

  9. Frozen: Elsa singing 'Let It Go'  (2013)

  10. Fight Club: Tyler Durden’s first basement fight, cigarette dangling out his mouth (1999)

Simon Wallis, Sales and Marketing Director of Domino’s Pizza UK, said: “Domino’s has been bringing people together to make movie nights to remember for over 30 years. We know nothing goes better with a great Betamax, VHS, DVD, Blue Ray DVD, Download or Boxset on the sofa than hot, freshly-made pizza. So here’s to another 30 years of great nights in!”
