● New research highlights the value of different routes into a long term successful career, with six in 10 (59%) saying paid employment and practical training can offer young people a valuable alternative to going straight to university
● Nearly half (46%) of workers say they never planned the career they’re in today, with nine in 10 Domino’s UK and Ireland store managers started out in an in-store team member or driver role
LONDON. Domino's UK and Ireland is recruiting 5,000 new in-store team members and drivers across its 1,400+ stores ahead of the festive season, with flexible roles available for people at every stage of life.
The recruitment drive kicks off during exam results season, a time of year when many people are considering their next steps and exploring new opportunities.
New research from Domino's suggests there is no single route to career success, with nearly half (46%) of UK workers saying they never planned the career they're in today, instead falling into it by chance or starting in what was intended to be a short-term job.
The findings challenge perceptions of entry-level roles as simply a stop-gap. Half (50%) of UK workers say they learnt more of the skills, knowledge and confidence they rely on today through work than education, while more than a third (36%) say their first job taught them practical skills they never gained through formal learning.
As Domino’s recruits 5,000 new team members across the UK and Ireland, the research shows how roles often seen as short-term can provide valuable experience, transferable skills and opportunities for longer-term progression. That is reflected within Domino’s itself, where nine in 10 store managers started out as an in-store team member or driver.
For some, that first step becomes something more: where opportunities are available, around one in five seasonal employees (21%) stay with Domino’s beyond their initial role.
Through its award-winning Academy training programme, Domino's helps employees build practical and transferable skills, from customer service and store operations to leadership and management. The programme combines structured learning with hands-on experience to support long-term career development, with qualifications and training backed by the Chartered Management Institute and City & Guilds Foundation.
Sarah Barron, Chief Commercial and Operating Officer at Domino’s, said: “Across our 1,400 stores in the UK and Ireland, we see first hand that there is no single route into a successful career. These findings are not a rejection of university, which remains the right choice for many, but a reminder that there is more than one route to a successful career.
“People join Domino’s at different stages of their working lives. Some are looking for a first job or seasonal role, some want flexible work that fits around other commitments, and others are looking for a career change, a return to work or an opportunity to build practical business and leadership skills on the job.”
“Some stay for a few months, while others discover a longer-term career and progress through the business into management and senior roles. With 5,000 roles available between now and the lead up to Christmas, we want to give more people the opportunity to take that first step and see where it could lead.”
The 5,000 vacancies include in-store team members and driver roles across Domino’s stores nationwide.
